The basics
What Utah law allows.
Utah sets limits on how dark and reflective your window tint can be, measured by VLT — visible light transmission, the percentage of light a window lets through. A higher VLT is lighter; a lower VLT is darker.
Getting it right keeps you clear of citations and preserves your resale value. Here are the current limits.

† In Utah, rear side and back windows may be any darkness as long as the vehicle has dual side mirrors. Limits shown are for passenger vehicles; film must be non-reflective. Medical exemptions are available with documentation.
The limits
Utah's legal VLT limits.
Windshield: a non-reflective strip is allowed along the top (typically the top four inches) — no full-windshield tint. Front side windows must allow at least 43% of light through (43% VLT minimum).
Rear side windows and the back window can be any darkness as long as the vehicle has dual side mirrors. SUVs and vans follow the same front-side rule; their rear glass can go darker. Exceptions exist for factory glass and documented medical needs.
